A country without a history like Nigeria is expected to go through this kinda challenge. I know a lot of people will ask me why I said this…?
It’s glaring in the face, now let me ask us these questions?;
what do we teach our young ones in our schools and at home these days about our history, culture and tradition? What exactly have we been imbibing into these young generations as parents, guardians, counselors, tutors etc.?
Do they even know their true identity? I mean, DO WE REALLY KNOW WHO WE ARE AND WHY WE ARE CALLED NIGERIANS?
History is not just about how Lord Lugard almagamated Nigeria.
True history is teaching and letting these young ones know how their forefathers and forebearers fought to keep this country in one shape today.
The bloodshed, the pains they went through, the sacrifices they made and how they laid down their lives for a country they knew they may not see before their exit, but believed beyond every conviction that NIGERIA will be today!
How they were able to succeed without a single ounce of greed in their plans and agendas, how they made decisions without any selfish thought and motives. How they gave their all, without expecting anything in return!
I wasn’t taught these kinda history during my time, neither are they teaching these present generations now, sadly, our movie industry and most of our movie producers that would have helped, are busy shooting strange movies to upload on YouTube for these young ones, so they can make money from their views, without even putting into consideration, the slightest idea of selling a better Nigeria to their viewers and/or netizens out there.
A country with a fragmented history like Nigeria, is like a child without a proper home training…that child will definitely bring disgrace to the parents and family name!
LET’S GO BACK TO OUR DRAWING BOARD, SO WE CAN SUCCEED WITHOUT FAILING AGAIN!!!
My name is Elizabeth Era and I am saying, We can make Nigeria a better place! Start from your homes.
History is what gives every generation of a people the insights into the past of any society. This will assist in defending the values of that society and promotes patriotism. Nigerians appears detached from their past and focus is on primitive acquisition of material wealth for the now without any enduring foundation for the protection of the health of the nation for the benefit of future generations. If we are not careful, future generations will may not understand their attachments to this great country and may trade it away for a piece of cake. We need to develop and teach not only in schools, our history.
