The way we are living nonchalantly in this world these days, especially our present generation, is very alarming and calls for serious intervention from the ALMIGHTY GOD.
I have been thinking of the recent happenings around us and feel so angered in my spirit hence decided to pen down my thoughts, observations, experiences and pains.
When I was in kindergarten, there was this nursery rhyme our teacher makes us recite every day immediately after lunch break or when we are about to close for the day.
“Step by step says the easy one … to walk as tall as a king, you must first bend down to walk; To eat the ripest fruit, you must first stretch your hands and feet; To be the man with the gold you must take things little by little… One step after the other makes you a perfect fellow.”
We were actually asked to recite this rhyme over and over again, so we don’t forget that life is one step at a time and that Rome was never built in a day. It’s a rhyme, yes, but it also teaches morals and in our subconscious, those of us who were able to deduce the meaning, knew we have to take life one step at a time and not through the fast lane.
What I see, read and hear these days is so overwhelming that even the devil is scared that hell may not be spacious enough to accommodate the evil doers in our present generation alone, not to mention the ones to come.
Fathers killing their children, having sexual intercourse with their daughters, turning their male or female children into morons and imbeciles, to mention but a few evil and abominable deeds for both money rituals and reputable positions in the society.
Girls these days are willing to do anything to make money and have the best of everything, designer shoes, bags, clothes, hair, name it. I was perplexed to find out that some girls date and even marry their best friend’s husbands, in some cases they even have to kill the friend, because they are so jealous and want what their friend has at all cost, forgetting that the Bible says that GOD makes everything beautiful in HIS own time
Mothers who are suppose to guide and protect their children and home ferociously like a lion protects its cub, are now the ones destroying their homes and the lives of their children, killing them, having sexual intercourse with them, turning their husbands into vegetables so they can take over the home and be the iya egbe of the home, or what the Bini people call “e mama noh ka sedo” (Mama who came to Benin 1st, and so should be named after the City). Some even sell their babies for money immediately after birth…Haba!!! This is outrageously wicked and abominable! Just some time ago, I heard from a reliable source that a woman in my village (Ekpoma), who knew her son was into internet fraud, was actually sleeping with him (having sexual intercourse with him) to help activate the charm that he uses for his yahoo-yahoo business. *shaking my head*. Everyone wants to make it big at all cost, not minding the consequences of their actions and decisions.
C’mon my people, it hasn’t gotten so bad! The reason why you can’t stop yourself from committing that abomination is because your eyes for big things are too much. The Yorubas call it oloju kokoro, and there’s a saying in Bini language; “emi noh renren o gbe ewe” (it means what is sweet is what kills a goat). You don’t destroy lives and expect yours and that of your loved ones to be safe, think before you act and consider others in all your dealings.
REMEMBER; “there’s a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof, are the ways of death” Proverbs 14:12
