The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6
“Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old,
he will not depart from it”
During my primary school days, we always recite this scripture and also that of Ephesians 6:2-3, where children are asked to honor their father and mother as it is the first commandment with a promise attached to it. I believe we were asked to recite these scriptures so it sticks and we know the right thing to do, think or say.
Hello pals, this week, I want to bring to our notice a very interesting and sensitive topic, it has to do with parenting (the act of training a child) though am going to focus on some specific areas that parents of this our present generation tend to ignore like it means nothing at all, it is indeed a big issue that should not be neglected.
Last week in Lagos, I went to E – Center Yaba, to relax a little and observe the environment to see how people in such a busy city as Lagos spend their leisure. Well, what I saw in the process is the reason why am writing on this particular topic. I saw a little girl wearing a very skimpy skirt and a camisole and her brother walking behind her was wearing a jean that was below his waist (they call it sagging) *shaking my head*. These kids are too small to be allowed to dress so inappropriately and their parents were walking right beside them. This is not a good thing at all.
We call it fashion these days, but in the real sense, it’s so not right, some parents complain of their children dressing indecently and their young girls being harassed by men, it is because of the kind of things they wear and learn from those older than them. C’mon parents, what happened to the advice from the ALMIGHTY GOD in proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.
Your child is a product of what you inculcate into him/her. Some parents even allow their kids to watch movies they aren’t supposed to watch. Please, the reason why we have so many half-naked-dressed youths in the streets today, is because some of our parents started it with them while they were still little. Especially in our universities these days, the reason why most girls are raped is that they just won’t stop exposing their private parts by wearing revealing clothes, and then the guys want to have a taste at all cost.
Parents the lives of your kids are in danger, please, help them become responsible and safe in this crime invested society we are living in these days.
